2009 California Women’s Conference: Lisa Niemi Speaks About The Passing Of Her Husband Patrick Swayze
Posted on 28. Oct, 2009 by CSS.
Lisa Niemi is opening up about the grief that came with the loss of her husband, beloved actor Patrick Swazye, calling the paralyzing pain of sorrow “an animal all of its own.”
Lisa was married to Patrick, her teen sweetheart, for 34 years before the Dirty Dancing star succumbed to pancreatic cancer on Sept. 14.
Lisa, 54, spoke about Swayze’s passing alongside Elizabeth Edwards at Maria Shriver’s 2009 California Women’s Conference in Long Beach on Tuesday. She revealed that dealing with loss is very new to her. “I thought during the 22 months of my husband’s illness that it gave me all this time to get used to the idea of losing him. I found for myself that when I actually got to this point I said, ‘No no no’… it wasn’t the same at all.”
Lisa credits the support of close friends with keeping her strong.
“I’ve gotten great advice from all my friends and I’m just going with the flow. I just know I have to go through it and it’s going to take as long as it’s going to take.”
Lisa admitted that she “wanted to, at some point, feel like I had the courage to go on and have a good life. And in the first few days after [Patrick's death], I felt like that would almost be a betrayal. That I would be letting him down somehow, and of course everyone’s saying to me, ‘Trust me, this is what he would have wanted.’ And it’s true… in a way, I would be letting him down to not do that.”
Lisa — who co-authored a memoir with Patrick before his passing — said carrying on is hard, but she knows that is what she must do.
“It’s a brutal truth that you have to go on without that person, but unfortunately, that’s what happens in life.”
Lisa will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show this Friday, Oct. 30.

Posted on 25. Oct, 2009 by CSS.
The former Friends actress is set to produce and star alongside the Queen of Talk in a weekly broadcast on The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), a new channel set to premiere next year.
It was Jen’s friendship with comedienne Chelsea Handler — who fronts her own knee-slapping late-night series on E! — that inspired her to take on the project.
A tipster tattles: “Jen became fascinated with the format after spending time with Chelsea. When she saw Oprah she mentioned that it would be fun to do a chat show and Oprah seized the moment and suggested they front one together for her new network.”
Jennifer, who is said to have a $210 million fortune, is still negotiating her salary for the project.
“Her salary is yet to be determined. She is doing this for one reason only: She absolutely wants to do it.”

Shiloh Pepin, Young Girl With “Mermaid Syndrome” Passes Away At Age 10

Shiloh Pepin, a girl born with a rare condition often called “Mermaid Syndrome,” has died. She was only 10-years-old.
Shiloh was born with Sirenomelia, a condition which caused her legs to be fused from the waist down. The condition is about as rare as conjoined twins and is usually fatal within a day or two of birth. Shiloh died Friday afternoon at Maine Medical Center, hospital spokesman John Lamb told The Associated Press. She had been hospitalized in critical condition since last week.
Little Shiloh’s health battles took her to The Oprah Show and TLC. Just last month, Shiloh sat down with Oprah and said she didn’t mind being called “mermaid girl” and let the world know she had no interest in getting her legs separated.
Rest in peace, Shiloh….

Susan Klebold ‘O’ Essay, “I Will Never Know Why” On Her Son Dylan Klebolds Hand In The Columbine Tragedy
Posted on 15. Oct, 2009 by CSS.
Susan Klebold has published an essay in O, The Oprah Magazine, talking about her son Dylan and his role in the Columbine school shootings that took place a decade ago. This essay is easily the biggest public statement by any of the parents involved in the Columbine shootings.
Klebold says in the essay that she had no idea her son was depressed or suicidal. The essay is entitled “I will never know why” and Susan Klebold goes on to write:
On suicide: “Dylan’s participation in the massacre was impossible for me to accept until I began to connect it to his own death. Once I saw his journals, it was clear to me that Dylan entered the school with the intention of dying there. And so in order to understand what he might have been thinking, I started to learn all I could about suicide.”
If my research has taught me one thing, it’s this: Anyone can be touched by suicide. But for those who are feeling suicidal or who have lost someone to suicide, help is available—through resources provided by nonprofits like the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the American Association of Suicidology.
On depression: “From the writings Dylan left behind, criminal psychologists have concluded that he was depressed and suicidal. When I first saw copied pages of these writings, they broke my heart. I’d had no inkling of the battle Dylan was waging in his mind.”
Looking ahead: “For the rest of my life, I will be haunted by the horror and anguish Dylan caused. I cannot look at a child in a grocery store or on the street without thinking about how my son’s schoolmates spent the last moments of their lives. Dylan changed everything I believed about myself, about God, about family, and about love.”

In an emotional interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show Monday, former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson tells Oprah that he was enraged over the death of his 4-year-old daughter Exodus last May. The little girl choked in a fatal treadmill accident in her mother’s Arizona mansion, but Tyson says he doesn’t want to know what went wrong.
“You don’t want to know?” Oprah asked
“If I know, then there might be a blame for it,” Iron Mike replied. “And if there’s somebody to blame for it, there will be a problem.”
He added: “My first instinct was a lot of rage, you know, and I was so happy that I had the tools in life, you know, to not go in that direction because I’ve been that direction. I know where that’s gonna lead me. I know I’m not gonna win.”
The interview airs later today.

Oprah Winfrey is vying for the world’s first interview with Jaycee Dugard, the now-29-year-old woman who was held captive after being abducted off a street in Lake Tahoe 18 years.
“I want that interview,” Winfrey told The Insider Wednesday. “Like everyone else in this business I have my people working on that. It’s the first time I have ever called up my producers and said, ‘Are we on this story? Because I want that interview!’”
Dugard, then 11, was snatched from a bus stop in 1991. Last month, the woman turned up at a California police station and revealed her story. A convicted sex offender and his wife have been charged with kidnapping.
