The British prankster, 37, has decided it is time to send Bruno to bed after figuring out he that can no longer get away with his outrageous set-ups because too many people recognize the Austrian fashionista.

Cohen will officially bid farewell to the controversial character once he has finished promoting the movie.

He says, “It’s wonderful that the films are successful, but every new person who sees the movie is one less person I can be Borat or Bruno with again, so finishing a movie means having to say goodbye. Admitting that you’re never going to play the character again is like saying goodbye to a loved one. And that’s hard.”

Eminem stormed out of the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night after Bruno star Sacha Baron Cohen’s ass landed in his lap — literally!

The rapper had just finished performing a medley of tracks from his new album Relapse and was sitting in the audience when Cohen’s gay alter ego, Bruno, flew overhead in a dove outfit, chanting, “Ich bin Bruno. Ich bin dove of peace –” baring his naked backside, he landed upside down on rapper Eminem’s lap.

“Are you serious? Are you f***in’ serious?” Em screamed as his entourage violently tried to free him. “Yo, get this motherf***er off me, man!”

“Is the real Slim Shady about to stand up?” Sacha continued to joke as the audience laughed.

Eminem and his entourage left their seats and walked out of the show. Well…he has a reputation for being nasty and mean-spirited to others — if you’re going to dish it out, you have to know how to take it.

Sacha Baron Cohen Crashes Anti-Gay Rally!

The Associated Press Reports that comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, posing as the fictional character Bruno, attended a rally supporting a ban on gay marriage in California. Bruno, a gay European fashion designer and electronic music reporter, is another one of Cohen’s creations from his Home Box office comedy series, “Da Ali G Show,” which also gave rise to his hugely popular character, Borat.

Cohen’s Bruno, like Borat, will soon be the central character in his own feature length film. Cohen likely will follow the formula that made Borat’s feature film a huge success, a fictional narrative interspersed with footage of Cohen in character as he spontaneously interacts with people unaware of the premise.

Cohen’s commitment to his craft has led to a new look for Bruno. Unlike the Bruno with short, cropped black hair in the Ali G show (remarkable similar to both Borat and G), the photos from the rally and from other events Cohen crashed as Bruno show Cohen wearing a longer hairstyle and also abandoning the mid-90s rave fashion sense Bruno exhibited during the HBO Series.

The AP reports:

Cohen, in disguise in a blond wig and preppy outfit, marched with demonstrators who support Proposition 8 while being trailed by cameras in a rally across from City Hall.

When photographers and reporters realized who he was and tried to approach the star, members of his film crew tried to shield him, and he was eventually whisked away in a van.

The California rally for the anti-gay marriage amendment has great comedic potential for the upcoming Bruno movie. Much of the comedy from both Borat and Bruno comes from Cohen’s character’s inability to understand American social, religious and political customs and norms. But while Borat’s humor comes from his political and cultural misunderstanding, Bruno’s character gets most of his laughs from his complete obliviousness to homophobia and tense reactions to his own flamboyant homosexuality.
