‘Footloose’ Director Kenny Ortega Steps Down
Posted on 26. Oct, 2009 by CSS.
Kenny Ortega has dropped out as director of Paramount’s Footloose remake, starring Gossip Girl’s Crawford and country starlet Julianne Hough, according to Variety.
The High School Musical lensman reportedly left the project after clashing with the studio about budget and tone.
Kenny, who directed the soon-to-be-released Michael Jackson concert film This Is It, allegedly wanted to stage complex musical numbers — which would have cost the studio $30 million. Paramount production chief Adam Goodman, on the other hand, insisted he remake be more dramatic than musical.
The 1984 original starred Kevin Bacon as a city slicker who moves to a rural town where dance has been outlawed by a overzealous local minister. In the process of trying to change the town’s laws, the teen falls in love with the preacher’s daughter.
A new Footloose director is expected to step in promptly to keep the film on track for its June 18 theatrical release

‘Paranormal Activity’ Continues To Be A Box Office Smash
Posted on 26. Oct, 2009 by CSS.

The low-budget chiller Paranormal Activity won a weekend battle of slashers flicks, overtaking part six of the Saw franchise and scooping up $22 million at the weekend box office.
Fueled by rave word-of-mouth reviews on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, Paranormal Activity has taken the box office by storm to become the year’s most unlikely number one hit. Following in the footsteps of 1999’s cult horror thriller The Blair Witch Project, director Oren Peli’s 2006 film was made for a microscopic $11,000 and has already earned $62 million in North America.
That means a $14.8 million debut for Saw VI, a franchise that has been an annual Halloween fixture at theaters since 2004. It was the worst opening ever for Lionsgate’s Saw series, whose previous low was $18.3 million for the original movie.

Ryan Seacrest, Actor?
Posted on 25. Oct, 2009 by CSS.

We can totally see Ryan Seacrest hosting the Oscars, but how about winning one? Ry’s hilarious self-portrait in the 2007 flick Knocked Up was just the beginning of what the Idol host hopes will be the beginning of a long-career on the big screen, according to a new report.
The National Enquirer’s veteran snitch Mike Walker claims Hollywood’s Most Famous Metrosexual has landed his first real acting job in an upcoming feature film. While details about the film are still a bit hush-hush, Ryan was allegedly recently overheard telling a friend: “I play a dad who has to stand up for his young son. You won’t even recognize me in it!”
If it is true, it will be very interesting to see how well Ryan transitions from media host to hollywood actor.

Christian Bale Modeled ‘American Psycho’ Character Jason Bateman After Tom Cruise.
Posted on 25. Oct, 2009 by CSS.

British actor Christian Bale modeled his sociopath central character in the big screen thriller American Psycho after couch jumper Tom Cruise.
According to Mary Harron, who directed the 2000 film, Chrisitan came up with the idea of using Tom as inspiration for playing serial killer Patrick Bateman after seeing him appear on the Late Show with David Letterman.
“We talked about how Martian-like Patrick Bateman was, how he was looking at the world like somebody from another planet, watching what people did and trying to work out the right way to behave,” Harron told The Courier Mail this week.
“And then one day he called me and he had been watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and he just had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes, and he was really taken with this energy,” she said.

So You Think You Can Dance judge Adam Shankman has signed on to produce and direct the big screen adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical Rock of Ages — starring Constantine Maroulis and Amy Spanger.
Variety says Shankman, who directed the 2007 comedy remake Hairspray, is plotting a boisterous production that is expected to slam into theaters in 2011.
“I had the best time of my life making Hairspray and badly wanted another musical, and when I watched ‘Rock of Ages,’ I was struck by the fact that not only had much of the audience seen it more than once, every guy in the audience knew the words to the songs,” Adam told Variety Tuesday. “What an extraordinary opportunity to open the genre to an audience that otherwise wouldn’t go see a musical…..I’m thinking big, and absolutely am going to attempt to cast with movie stars. Now that musicals are working again, actors are much more open to it.”
