Katy Perry Wins then Loses French Music Award.

It’s been a rough couple of months for singer Katy Perry. Not only did she recently break up with her boyfriend, get totally dissed at the Grammy Awards, pick a fight with Lily Allen and get mistaken for some girl who looks a lot like her posting nude photos of herself on the Internet, but now she has to give back her recent NRJ Music Award for her hit single “I Kissed a Girl” due to a voting glitch.

US pop star Kate Perry was given the international song of the year award for “I Kissed a Girl” at a French music award, but it turns out her song wasn’t the best after all.

The host of the NRJ Music Award in the Riviera resort of Cannes announced at the end of the show Saturday that there had been a mistake in vote-counting and that Perry was not the winner.

The award instead went to Barbados-born singer Rihanna for “Disturbia.”

The trophies were handed out based on results of audience votes on NRJ’s website in the weeks leading up to the awards ceremony.

Perry, who had stepped up to the podium to pick up the award for international song of the year, did however win in another category — best international album for “One of the Boys”.

The international female artist of the year award went to Britney Spears who was not present to receive the honour. The Pussycat Dolls won for best international group and Enrique Iglesias was named top international male artist.

Ricky Gervais Defends Himself Against British Press.

At the Golden Globes on Sunday, Ricky Gervais was one of the high points. His short presenting duties included as aside to friend Kate Winslet, who had, just minutes earlier, won the Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for The Reader. Gervais said to Winslet, “Well done Winslet. I told you, do a Holocaust movie and the awards come, didn’t I? Trouble is with Holocaust films is there’s never any gag reel on the DVDs.” After mostly laughter and a few groans, Garvais did a bit as if he had an angel and devil on his shoulders trying to persuade him to either not do the bit, or to do the bit. Gervais got a lot of laughs, and even better press.

Well, the American press loves him. The British press, not so much. Apparently, after the Globes, several British tabloids claimed that Ricky’s bit didn’t go down well. Ricky, in turn, is lashing out the British press on his official website.

Comedian Ricky Gervais has unleashed a bitter tirade against the British media – accusing U.K. journalists of putting a negative spin on his recent Golden Globe Awards antics because they are “jealous” of his successful career.

The Office star provoked a storm of controversy at Sunday’s (11Jan09) prizegiving ceremony in Los Angeles by telling a risque joke about the Holocaust while presenting fellow Brit, Kate Winslet, with an award for her performance in World War II movie The Reader.

Gervais told the crowd, “Well done Winslet. I told you, do a Holocaust movie and the awards come, didn’t I? Trouble is with Holocaust films is there’s never any gag reel on the DVDs.”

The funnyman’s comments sparked outrage amongst the U.K. press, but Gervais has criticised the negative commentary about his gaff.

He writes on his official website, “The joke about Kate Winslet may have got the biggest laugh of the night. Everyone who spoke to me said so anyway. All the U.S. press said it was funny including Jewish magazine Heeb. TV Guide made it one of their top moments. New York Daily News said it was ‘Hilarious.’ The Boston Globe said “British comic Ricky Gervais proved once again to be the highlight of an awards show.”

“So why did a couple of English papers say it went down badly? Because they’re jealous lying c***s who’s (sic) lives haven’t turned out like they planned and want everyone to be as unhappy as they are.”

Well done, Gervais. Put the tabloids in their place. From what I can see, the British papers seem to have a love-hate relationship with Gervais – and many other celebrities.

Heath Ledger’s Golden Globe will go to the late actor’s young daughter, Matilda.

Heath won a Best Supporting Actor prize for his role as “The Joker” in the 2008 Summer BlockbusterThe Dark Knight.

“I should imagine that eventually it will be going to Matilda,” Heath’s mom Sally Bell told PEOPLE Magazine in an interview from her home in Perth, Australia on Monday.

“At this stage she is only so young, but down the track she will have all these things. It will belong to her because she is part of him.”

“It is such a fantastic and wonderful legacy for his daughter,” Ms. Bell added.

“Matilda will have so many people who will be able to speak to her about her father’s abilities and [the] respect he had in the industry. That is such a wonderful legacy to leave.”

Tina Fey, 'Bloggers Can Suck It' Acceptance Speech.

Her spot on Saturday Night Live impersonations of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin made Tina Fey 2008’s comic little darling, but not everyone finds the 30 Rock star quite so endearing.

Tina decided to unleash pent-up hostility towards some of her biggest critics-online bloggers-while accepting her award for Best Actress in a Television Series – Comedy at the 2009 Annual Golden Globes live from Beverly Hills on Sunday night.

“If you ever feel too good about yourself, they have this thing called ‘the internet.’ You can find a lot of people there who don’t like you, and I’d like to address some of them now,” Tina began.

She then proceeded to list off the offenders, which included online personalities “dianefan,” “BabsonLacrosse,” and “cougar-letter,” telling them, one by one, that they “can suck it!”

Was it just me or did Tina Fey look like she was fighting back tears the entire night?? She came across out of sorts to me.
