Alec Baldwin & Steve Martin Take On Oscar Hosting Duties
Posted on 05. Nov, 2009 by CSS.

Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are teaming up to host the 82nd Academy Awards.
The duo will follow 2009 host Hugh Jackman, who announced last week that he would not return to helm next year’s ceremony. While Academy Award-nominated actor Alec is a first-time Oscar host, Steve hosted the 73rd and 75th Academy Awards.
The two men have a friendly hosting rivalry on the sketch comedy hit Saturday Night Live. Steve has hosted SNL 15 times, while Alec has hosted the sketch comedy just 14 times.
“I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin,” Steve said in a statement Tuesday.
“I don’t play the banjo but I’m thrilled to be hosting the Oscars – it’s the opportunity of a lifetime,” Alec added, referencing the comedian legend, who does play the banjo and is currently touring with the bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers.
The 2010 Academy Awards will air live from Kodak Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles on March 7.

U2’s 1991 album Achtung Baby was partly inspired by the band’s stay in the city.

Posted on 26. Oct, 2009 by CSS.

Ricky Gervais has made a career out of making folks laugh — from his breakthrough British hit The Office (which spawned the American version) as well as his record-breaking podcast, The Ricky Gervais Show — now he’ll have a chance to do it in front of some of the most accomplished entertainers in Hollywood. The British comedian will host the 67th Annual Golden Globes in January, PEOPLE has confirmed.
Ricky will be the first star to host the Golden Globes telecast since 1995.
“We are delighted to have Ricky Gervais as the host on our show,” said Philip Berk, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Ricky couldn’t be more excited: “Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry, which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host. I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don’t turn down.”

Bellingham, Washington Gives Jon Stewart Key To City
Posted on 15. Oct, 2009 by CSS.

The mayor of Bellingham, Washington says Jon Stewart, the spitfire host of Comedy Central’s Daily Show, is getting a key to the city. Unfortunately, he won’t be traveling to Washington city to accept it.
Mayor Dan Pike tells The Bellingham Herald that representatives of Jon’s talent agency told him that Stewart appreciated the offer to come get the key but was too busy to accept. Mayor Pike is “disappointed” by Stewart’s decision because the point of the offer was to spark community discussion. He made the offer after the mayor of nearby Mount Vernon decided to give controversial Fox News commentator Glenn Beck a key to that city — promoting outrage from his opponents.
The mayor says he still plans to send Jon a key to the city.

President Obama Awarded Nobel Peace Prize 2009
Posted on 09. Oct, 2009 by CSS.

President Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, also citing the president’s outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.
The committee said it attached particular emphasis on the President’s vision of a world without nuclear weapons.
The stunning choice made Obama only the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize, shocking many Nobel watchers- who believed it was too early to award the president. Barack Obama took office only weeks before the committee’s Feb. 1 deadline for nominations. Theodore Roosevelt won the award in 1906 and Woodrow Wilson won in 1919. Former President Jimmy Carter won the award in 2002, while former Vice President Al Gore shared the 2007 prize with the U.N. panel on climate change.
“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said this morning. “His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.”
“Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play,” the committee said.
So if nominations had to be in by Feb 1- That means Obama was nominated just 9 days after taking office… Doesn’t that strike anyone as a little odd?
