Katherine Heigl and husband Josh Kelley have completed their adoption of a 10-month-old girl from Korea — and she’s a real cutie.

The Emmy-winning Grey’s star and her singer-songwriter spouse have named their new baby
daughter Nancy Leigh, after the actress’s mother Nancy and sister Margaret Leigh — who was adopted from the same Asian nation in the 1970s. The new addition to the Heigl-Kelley Family will go by the nickname Naleigh, Katherine’s spokeswoman Melissa Kates announced on Thursday.

“They sent us a picture. They told us that it was a little girl and who she was and the information about six months ago,” Katherine said in an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show last Friday. “It was meant to take a long time. This sort of thing can take years.”

The process moved faster because Naleigh is a special needs baby. “They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible,” she added.

Josh and Katherine have shared a few personal photos of their lovely daughter on their charity website @ www.jasonheiglfoundation.org.

Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness are reportedly in the process of adopting a third child.

“They are adopting another child now, and plan to welcome a fourth into their family down the road. It has become their mission,” a source squeals in latest issue of The National Enquirer. “Hugh is a big believer in adoption, not just personally, but from a world view of extending help to parentless children.”

The star of the summer blockbuster X Men Origins: Wolverine recently revealed that he feels compelled to open his home to children with mixed-race backgrounds.

“Mixed-race babies have such a hard time being adopted,”
he remarked.

Big hugs to Hugh and his family. It takes an incredible amount of selflessness to open your home and your heart to children who need love. That’s awesome.

Madonna Opens Up About Failed Malawi Adoption of Mercy James

Madonna is speaking out on her continued hope to adopt Malawian toddler Mercy James.

According to an e-mail from the pop star, published in Malawian newspaper The Nation on Sunday, Madonna insists she wants to adopt the orphan despite a judge’s rejection of her adoption application. On April 3, her adoption of Mercy was rejected over a law requiring 18 to 24 months of residency in the country. She is appealing the rejection.

The residence rule caused controversy during Madonna’s 2006 adoption of son David Banda, when the legality was alleged waved the star.

“I want to provide Mercy with a home, a loving family environment and the best education and healthcare possible,” Madonna wrote in the email. “And it’s my hope that she, like David, will one day return to Malawi and help the people of their country.”

“Though I have been advised that I cannot publicly discuss the pending appeal regarding my desire to adopt Mercy, I do want to say how much I appreciate the level of support that I have received from the people of Malawi and my friends around the world..”

Madonna Malawi Adoption Denied.

Madonna has lost her bid to adopt a second Malawian orphan, the BBC has learned.
A judge has rejected Madonna’s request to adopt a second child from the South African nation because of a requirement that demands prospective parents be a resident in the country for 18 to 24 months, a judge and lawyer said Friday.

The residency rule was waived in 2006, when the 50-year-old pop star was allowed to take her adopted son, David, to London before his adoption was finalized in 2008.

According to reports in the Malawian capital Lilongwe, Madonna’s lawyer went into the court alone to be told the news that the application for interim adoption had been turned down, meaning 3-year-old Mercy James will have to stay in the country–for now.

“I must have to decline to grant the application to Madonna,” judge Esmie Chondo said in a ruling following a closed-door hearing on Friday.

Madonna can appeal the ruling to Malawi’s Supreme Court.

I feel sad for Madonna- that’s got to be very hard to hear when your own lawyer was telling everyone that their was no Malawian law that could keep Madonna from adopting the little girl. I wish her luck with Malawi’s Supreme Court.

Madonna's Lawyer Speaks, "No Law Will Stop This Adoption"

Madonna Adoption Mercy James www.hometownhollywood.comMadonna’s lawyer is laying down the law. Alan Chinula is representing Madge for the adoption of Mercy James. The final decision will be rendered by a Malawian judge on Friday, most likely. But to Chinula, there are no worries. He says “I don’t see any law in Malawi that can stop this adoption” and that Mercy’s uncle “has already signed off the consent forms, and Madonna counter-signed them.” So I guess that’s that. Why even show up for the Friday court date?

Madonna’s lawyer Alan Chinula tells Usmagazine.com he is confident that the judge will allow the singer, 50, to adopt 4-year-old girl Chifundo “Mercy” James at Friday’s hearing.

“I am not sleeping sleepless nights over this,” Chinula tells Us. “I don’t see any law in Malawi that can stop this adoption.”

On Tuesday, a rep for Madonna confirmed for the first time that the singer is adopting the girl, whose unwed 18-year-old mother died soon after she gave birth. Chinula tells Us the girl’s uncle, Peter Baneti, “has already signed off the consent forms, and Madonna counter-signed them.”

“She just has to wait to hear from me when I get the result” on Friday, he says. She is not required to attend the hearing, Chinula adds, “although she can attend if she so chooses.”

Several non-governmental organizations have called the Human Rights Consultative Committee, slamming Madonna’s adoption attempt because the groups feel the child should be taken care of by her own family.

The organizations also accuse the singer of using her wealth and celebrity status to bend Malawi’s adoption laws. (The singer, who adopted David Banda in 2006, has not followed regulations that stipulate that prospective parents must undergo an 18- to 24-month assessment period in Malawi before adopting.)

But Chinula tells Us that law is over 50 years old and “archaic.”

“Laws must be dynamic,” he says. “They must move with current trends.”

Now that Madonna is in the market for a new African orphan, serial adoptive parents Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have set their sights on India for the latest addition to their Brangelina Tribe.

A source tells the Sunday Express that Angie recently revealed plans to adopt from India when she met the child stars of the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire.

Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail reportedly asked the Oscar-winning star why she hadn’t adopted from his home country, to which she replied, “Well, I’ll let you into a little secret, we will soon.”

According to press reports, Brad and Angie first showed interest in adopting from India when they visited the country’s Priya Darshini Orphanage in 2006, but were too busy to finalize the arrangement at that time.

“They filled out all the paperwork but had to put the adoption on hold because of all their other commitments.”

The pair already has seven children -adopted kids Maddox, seven, from Cambodia, Pax, four, from Vietnam, Ethiopian daughter Zahara, who is three- as well as biological daughter Shiloh, two, and their seven-month-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
